Preserving Chinese Culture

About CCSS

The Chinese Cultural Society of Stockton (CCSS) was initiated by a group of founding members in 1977 to fill the void of Chinese cultural activities in the San Joaquin County area. It was incorporated in the State of California as a non‐profit organization and received its tax exemption status in 1979.

The purposes of CCSS are:

  • To preserve and promote pride of Chinese cultural traditions, customs and arts in the Chinese Community.
  • To promote an awareness and appreciation of Chinese culture in the community.
  • To enhance the cultural life of the community by promoting and sponsoring varied educational, social and Chinese cultural activities throughout the year.

CCSS has continuously presented a New Year Festival each year in early March since 1979 in Stockton, featuring Chinese folk dances, lion dances, Chinese songs, Tai Chi and Kung Fu demonstrations, fashion shows, cooking demonstrations, food court, calligraphy, art, children’s workshop, etc. CCSS offers scholarships each year to graduating high school and San Joaquin Delta College students of Chinese descent. CCSS also sponsors or co‐sponsors various cultural activities such as Chinese concerts, lectures on Chinese calligraphy and history, Chinese herb medicine and tours of Chinese historical sites.

Membership in CCSS is open to any person interested in the purposes of CCSS. At present, there are two types of membership: individual and family. For more information, email ccs4you@att.net.
